This alpha radiation detector determines energy levels and, when energy measurement isn't crucial, can also function as a beta radiation counter. Upon impact, alpha particles interact within the depletion layer, releasing kinetic energy and generating charge carriers proportional to the initial energy. Alpha particles' limited penetration depth allows for this proportionality, unlike beta particles that penetrate beyond the depletion layer, preventing energy determination.
